Wally Dion lives and works as an artist in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. Born in 1976, Dion is a member of Yellow Quill First Nation (Salteaux). In 2004 Dion graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. His early work typically consisted of large scale painted portraiture sometimes working with themes including social-realism and First Nations class struggles in modern Canadian life. More recent work has involved the use of recycled computer circuit boards for large sculptural pieces. Dion’s work can be viewed as part of a broader conversation in the art world about power: who has it, who doesn’t, who should have it, and why.

Dion’s work has been met with positive support from the local and national art communities. He is the recipient of numerous grants/ awards from agencies including the Canada Council for the Arts, Saskatchewan Arts Board and CARFAC. Dion has exhibited throughout western Canada, including a solo show at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina and will be showing at the Ottawa Art Gallery in 2011. His work can be found in several collections including: the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Canada Council Art Bank, MacKenzie Art Gallery and the Mendel Art Gallery.
